The combination deli/restaurant/grocery store sits at 135 E. Main Street in Mount Kisco. It was opened by Matt and Ray Henley, who officially celebrated the 40-year milestone in April.
"It’s been very rewarding serving the community all of these years and watching the next generation come in, and the generation after that," Ray told Daily Voice.
The large and all-encompassing menu includes fresh lettuce salads and longtime favorites like pasta salad, chicken salad, cucumber salad, potato salad and more.
Hot entrees include Italian specialties like baked ziti, chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan, lasagna, stuffed shells and much more.
Heartier meat-based entrees include BBQ ribs, chicken broccoli, pulled pork, sausage and peppers, sliced pork loin, chicken marsala and turkey and stuffing.
Even some classic American comfort foods are available, like buffalo wings, chili, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and more.
The deli's origins were in Southern Westchester when the Henleys' father started his own business on Palmer Avenue in Bronxville, which the brothers took over after his death in 1973, according to TheExaminerNews.com. After a fire destroyed the building, the Henleys decided on Mount Kisco as a new location in 1979.
The 40 years M & R Deli has been serving the Mount Kisco community have given it a reputation as an area staple, with a perfect 5-star rating on Facebook.
“These guys are the best! So quick, huge variety, and super nice! Love them. My husband has been going for 35+ years and I've been going for 14 years. I don't go anywhere else,” wrote Claudia N. in a Facebook review.
M & R Delicatessen is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit the website.
